Double Header today… got FT’s with a very light crowd and consistent barrels, but the offshores eventually sent us home. The tide wasn’t too high, it was just high winds that kept us from catching waves or completing turns. That’s kind of the norm for this time of year when the lake effect kicks into high gear. You have to surf early at FT’s before offshores literally blow it out.
We snuck down to GP for the high tide even though the swell was huge and we knew we were going to be surfing some death bombs if nothing else. We got there and there was one guy out….ripping to say the least. The waves were maxing on the reef and we were nervous, but paddled out to take our chances. We’re glad we did…that’s not to say we didn’t bounce a couple of times, but we got some good barrels and made it back to the bar in one piece. It might sound dramatic, but the drop at this place makes Pipeline seem like an intermediate wave. Luckily the double header wasn’t hitting our heads twice.
