I love flat spells, especially when they end! The truth is that it hasn’t been flat, it’s been shoulder to head high and we’ve been scoring at Salinas Grande. We had some 3ft @10 second swell combo’ing with 2 ft @ 8 seconds and things were working….we were actually just racing the winds as they were trickling onshore pretty early…. we still managed to get in three hour sessions in the morning which set us up for some pretty decent afternoon hammock sessions and the Super Cool Fun Adventures that we’re patenting.
Alas, the flat’ish spell has ended and with more energy in the water Salinas Grande has shut down (closing out) and the reefs are coming alive. Some guests insisted on checking Salinas only to get shut down, while a couple guests stayed back and surfed out front and scored! Two guys out trading off barrels.
The photos above are from out front and Pipes yesterday afternoon….the wind stayed offshore until 4pm which was weird. Not sure why it didn’t stay all day, but it was a long enough day of surfing to stick a fork in it and call it done.
