Does it seem like I make a lot of excuses? It seems like it to me. When I set up the water housing I turned the camera on and the battery meter read full. I checked the card and erased all images. I put the 28mm lens on and made sure the autofocus switch was on. I checked the ISO, Aperature etc… I put the camera in the housing and took a test photo….all good. Sealed up the housing and tested it in the pool…water tight as usual. We get the housing into the ocean finally and it won’t take photos? The battery is dead!
So apparently I need some new batteries.
The worst part was that Salinas was going off, again! The only way to get photos there is to get a camera on the beach (too much work) or a water housing…so we rigged up the water housing. The forecast for Salinas wasn’t even that good, just some minor cross up, but the right at Twiggies and Casa Blanca were working. Not many lefts had the perfect shape that the rights had, but it’s always nice to eek out some rights in the land of lefts. The guests here are from the North Shore of Oahu and they were thoroughly impressed with the power, shape and lack of crowds. Even though some of them were puking from hangovers there were smiles and mucho aloha all around. After about three hours the tide filled in and the waves were sporadic, but when the sets hit they were even better. The only problem was we were burnt out and had to turn our backs on empty perfection.
We’re heading back today. The ocean is smooth, the waves look a little more consistent, the hangovers are cured and the batteries are charged….or so it says.
