Puerto Sandino is a rock reef in front of an estuary… when the reef has no sand the wave does not break. PS is best after a good rainy season when lots of sand has come out of the estuary to form sometimes a 300 yard sand bar! This wave, nicknamed freight trains, when working is truly a world class wave. Unfortunately this past season I only surfed it one time and it was no where near world class ( I believe this is due to the drought that Nicaragua faced last year ) But, the year before from 5ft t0 12ft this wave was on! If you show up a little before dead low tide and catch the push get ready for a super session! When it is smaller it is super rippable with a perfect pace and friendly lip resembling Restaurants in FIJI… when it is big make sure to bring your step up because there will be some perfect 10’s on offer! I believe that since this year we exited the drought and PS will be on fire all season this year!
